Finally, the election is over! Unfortunately this is 2020, code for perfect eyesight and horrendous year. Or as Yogi Berra once quipped, “It ain’t over till its over.” To date Donald Trump has yet to concede the election claiming, without proof, facts, or reason, that the election was fraudulent and that he actually won. The saddest part of all this is the number of Republican officials that either go along with his anti-democracy stance, or remain silent. So much for their Oath of Office. The fact that Trump’s base slavishly agrees with whatever he says is a surprise to no one. Even their anger against Republican voting officials and even Fox News and threats of Civil War is par for the course for these people. Trump’s claim that the election was rigged could be investigated, and be proven false, by every appropriate agency in every State, as well as the Justice Department, the FBI, CIA, Homeland Security, James Bond, and the Boy Scouts of America, and it would not matter one iota to these members of what is clearly a Trump personality cult. It should be crystal clear to the rest (majority) of Americans of the threat these followers, and the current Trump controlled Republican Party, present to this nation and its Democracy.
Conservatives love to fly our flag and loudly proclaim their love for America, and God, mom, apple pie, and guns. Not to mention, liberty, freedom, and rights. Which usually boils down to them wanting the liberty to deny the freedom and rights of others. Conservatives also like to assert that Democrats and Liberals hate the United States of America and desire to destroy everything she stands for. The truth is that Liberals only hate when America deviates from her ideals, which generally happens when Conservatives are at the helm. A better case could be made that it is Conservatives who hate America. This election cycle, and the past four years, for that matter, are prime examples of that. And as if that were not proof enough, the insurrectionist riot at the Capitol on January 6th, 2021 seals the deal. So let us delve further into this theory.
The United States is known throughout the world as the land of immigrants. In fact, around 99 and 44/100’s percent of Americans are immigrants or the descendants of immigrants. Only the few indigenous survivalists of European genocide are able to claim the title of Native Americans. The rest of us Americans are represented by nearly, if not all, ethnic and religious groups from every nation and continent except Antarctica. It could even be said that, in microcosm, We Are The World. Conservatives hate this. They refuse to acknowledge that America is, or has ever been, anything but a White Christian nation. Trump’s championing of this misguided sentiment led to the loudest and most consistent slogan of “Build That Wall” at his campaign rallies. This was in refence to his calls to build a great wall (of Trump?) across our southern border. According to Trump, this was necessary to stop the hordes of Mexican drug dealers and rapists invading our country, and, of course, carrying all kinds of infectious diseases with them. Oh, and let us not forget, they were also coming here to take all the jobs away from us, such as picking crops, and cleaning hotels. Jobs that regular Americans are eagerly standing in long lines to apply for. How these Mexicans have the time to hold down these jobs while still raping and running drugs, all the while being sick from some dreaded disease, has always been a wonder to behold.
Trump’s actions against immigrants did not stop at our southern border. He also placed restrictions against Muslims, and others from “shithole” countries, from entering our nation. He accomplished most of this by Executive Order, rather then working with Congress to enact fair and comprehensive Immigration Law. (Historical Note: The same people who were cheering Trump on at this point were the same people who had lambasted President Obama for his use of Executive Orders. (Not to suggest that they are hypocrites or anything) When Trump started having troubles financing his “Wall”, he simple took money earmarked for housing for our military. To try and prevent legal immigration of Mexicans he had the children of migrants ripped from their parent’s arms, and thrown into cages. Many of which have yet to be united with their families. The hew and cry from the Right to Life, family values, Christian Conservatives was deafening. If you turned the volume all the way up, and pretended. The point here is that Conservatives hate immigrants, so how could they possibly feel any different towards the Land of Immigrants, America, itself?
America is more then just the land of immigrants. It’s main claim to fame is being the world’s first true representative Democracy. Or as Abraham Lincoln put it, “a government of the people, by the people, and for the people”. While still a work in progress, it has always been a noble experiment that has inspired lovers of freedom throughout the world. Naturally Conservatives share in this love of freedom and Democracy. Well…., not exactly. As they say, actions speak louder then words, and the actions of Conservatives throughout our history have demonstrated that they consider a nation where “all men are created equal” to be somewhat sacrilegious. Conservatives, of all parties, have been responsible for a variety of laws, rules, and regulations intended to imped the right to vote. In other words, to obstruct Democracy. After the end of slavery, another Conservative enterprise, Jim Crow laws were enacted, primarily in the South, to try and keep Blacks from participating in voting. While all of these laws were overturned by the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Conservatives have by no means ceased their efforts to find new and exciting ways to obstruct free and fair elections. Gerrymandering and voter suppression laws have become rampant in Republican states. In 2020, under the leadership of Donald Trump, Conservatives have taken their attack against Democracy to an all time level. Now whenever they lose an election they just claim that the election was rigged, that any votes against them should be invalidated, without any proof whatsoever that any kind of fraud was committed. So far as they are concerned, the fact that they lost an election is proof enough that they were cheated. How can one claim to love America when you plainly hate it’s system of government?
And then there is a matter of The Constitution of the United States. Conservatives spend an exorbitant amount of time and energy going on about how they are the guardians and true believers of the Constitution. However, as soon as the average Conservative starts claiming what the Constitution does and does not guarantee or allow, it becomes crystal clear that few of them actually have read it, including the ones that can actually read. The only exception would be the Second Amendment, which we will get to in a minute. This is somewhat understandable. Fact is, once you get past The Preamble, the Constitution makes for pretty dry reading. How the government is constructed, balance of power, when to vote, number of Representatives, and such. Most people, including Liberals, sadly, ever make the effort. Things do pick up when one reaches the Amendments, however. This is where things get a bit dicey for the average Conservative. The Second Amendment is clearly their all time favorite. Many of them even refer to it as the First Freedom. They often act as if our forefathers copied it directly from the Bible, where Moses carried it down from Mount Sinai along with the Ten Commandments. Conservative propagandists love to keep the base riled up by claiming that Liberals are plotting to eliminate the Second Amendment and forcibly take their guns away. And they fall for it every time. They fail to realize that Liberals are gun owners too, far more of them then Conservatives think. We just don’t feel the need to parade them around as a way to compensate for anything. Nor, as a rule, are we afraid to walk out our front door without packing heat.
Other then the Second Amendment, the Conservative love for the Amendments takes a serious nose dive. Instead of commenting on all 27 Amendments, let us just concentrate on just one, the First Amendment. Few Conservatives will admit it, but they hate this amendment. It goes like this;
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or the press; or the right of the people to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”
There is no Amendment that is more anti-Conservative then this one. First off, as mentioned before, Conservatives consider America to be a Christian nation. They are wrong. The first ten words of the First Amendment say so. To say otherwise is to reject at least this part of the First Amendment. Those, such as Jews, Buddhists, Hindus, and especially Islamist, who take advantage of their right expressed in the next six words of that Amendment often find themselves under verbal, written or even physical attack. Not by Liberals, mind you, but by the so-called lovers of the Constitution, Conservatives.
The next section deals with freedom of speech. Now Conservatives love freedom of speech, as long as they are the ones speaking, and get to carry a gun while doing so. However, they are not so much in favor of it when others wish to point out when government or society is acting against American values. That’s “real” values, such as Civil Rights, truth, justice, and things like Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. Conservatives will try and prevent the speech of those with different opinions, but have conniptions when refused permission to speak their anti-American clap-trap at some University or other public forum. They fail to understand that there is a difference between the right to speak and the requirement to listen.
And then comes “Freedom of the Press”. In today’s Trump infected world the Press is the enemy of the people. To these Ditto-heads only right wing propaganda and internet conspiracies are deemed fit for public consumption. Media based of facts is considered fake news. This is not to say that Liberals do not have complaints against the Main Stream Media, they do. But where Conservatives hate it because it tells the truth, which they don’t want to hear, Liberals have a problem with it because they do not tell enough of the truth. (Ever notice how little is said in the Media concerning Campaign Financing?)
Last, but certainly not least, is the right to “peaceably to assemble, and petition the Government”, i.e., protest. As with most rights, Conservatives seem to feel that only they are entitled to exercise this right. They consider a peaceable assemblage of grievances to be where they come dressed in full battle gear and semi-automatic weapons to whine about having to wear a surgical mask in public during a pandemic to protect their fellow citizens. When Liberals march to protest racist police officers murdering innocent Black civilians, or committing unnecessary brutality against Black suspects, Conservatives call it rioting and looting, even though there are only a few sporadic and localized instances of such criminal behavior. That’s right, rioting and looting is criminal behavior, and it is sporadic. Blacks protesting is not criminal behavior, no matter how often it occurs.
That concludes Conservative hatred of the First Amendment. There are many other Amendments that Conservatives hate, such as the 13th, 14th, 15th, and 19th. Look them up. Conservatives opposed them all. And yet they claim nothing but love for The Constitution. But like all things Trump, just claims are enough, no proof is required. There are still many ways that Conservatives hate America, but let us examine just two more.
Conservatives hate America because they hate paying taxes. They don’t hate paying taxes like citizens everywhere throughout history hate paying taxes. They bring it to a whole new level. To them, paying taxes is an affront to their liberty. After Obama was elected President some Conservatives even created an anti-tax movement called the Tea Party. In reality the anti-tax part was just a cover-up. The Tea Party was a more socially acceptable name then the Anti-Black President Party. At the time taxes were at their lowest point in decades, and Obama had not yet had much time to raise them. The name was also an aberration of the Boston Tea Party of 1773, an act of civil disobedience that was not actually about taxes but rather about political representation. The Conservative grasp of history has always been tenuous, at best.
Lastly, and most importantly, Conservatives hate America because they hate the majority of American citizens. Very few of our foreign enemies have ever hated the citizenry of this country as much as Conservatives do. They hate Blacks, Hispanics, Asians, Arabs, Native Americans, naturalized citizens, Jews, Muslims, Atheists, and other non-Christians, Gays, and White Liberals. That constitutes the majority of Americans. You know, the ones who voted for Biden.
In conclusion, how can anyone claim to love the United States of America when they hate the type of people who founded it, the principles upon which it was founded, the necessity to contribute to its maintenance, and most of the very people who proudly call themselves Americans? If a country can not be civil to its citizens, and its citizens can not be civil to each other, it can not truly qualify as a civilization.
